Before the opening of the B-League, the Hamamatsu Higashi Mikawa Phoenix, a member of the BJ League, became San-En Neo Phoenix.
The "neo" in "neophoenix" means "new" in Greek.
The name "Neo Phoenix" is derived from the Greek word "neo," meaning "new." The name was given to the team to signify that it will be flying strongly like a phoenix in the new era of basketball.
