Buta-Don (Pork Bowl)

Obihiro is famous for Butadon (Pork Bowl) because it is one of the leading pork producing areas in Hokkaido. The pork bowl is one of the local dishes loved by the people of Obihiro. It is made by grilling pork, dipping it in a salty-sweet soy sauce-based sauce, and putting it on warm rice. The most famous pork bowl shop is "Pancho" in front of Obihiro Station. There are some popular pork bowl shops in Obihiro, so if you have time, it might be fun to go to other pork bowl restaurants and compare the tastes.

"MASUYA PAN" Bakery

If you visit Obihiro, please try the Masuya-Pan bakery bread. This bakery was established in 1950 and is loved by the people of Obihiro and Tokachi.
They have three shops in Obihiro City and some of them open early in the morning, so it might be a good idea to get breakfast at Masuya-Pan. There is a shop in ESTA Obihiro West Wing at JR Obihiro Station.

Marusei Butter Sandwich by ROKKATEI

Rokkatei, a confectionery manufacturer, has its head office in Obihiro City. The main store is about a 10-minute walk from the station. You can also buy this product at the West Wing of Esta Obihiro or Obihiro Airport.

Sanpouroku Baumkuchen by RYUGETSU

Ryugetsu, a confectionery manufacturer, has its head office near Obihiro City. Ryugetsu's "Sanpouroku" Baumkuchen is a very famous sweet in Japan. The new factory and store "Sweetpia Garden" is located approximately 10 kilometers from Obihiro Station. You can experience a factory tour and making sweets workshop (call for info.) at Sweetpia Garden.

Sweet Potato by CRANBERRY

Cranberry is famous for sweet potatoes. It takes about 15 minutes on foot from Obihiro Station. The main store of Cranberry also sells soft cream as well as sweet potato. They are sold at the airport, but if you definitely want to take them home as souvenirs, it's better to buy them at the main store.
