Kazuto Tsuruoka Memorial Stadium was named after Kazuto Tsuruoka, a native of Kure City who built the golden era of the Nankai Hawks. Kazuto Tsuruoka went on to play high school baseball at the prestigious Hiroshima Commercial School, and during his time at Hosei University, he boasted a brilliant defense that was said to be "the best in the history of the Tokyo Six Universities. After graduation, he joined the Nankai Army, the predecessor of the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks. After graduation, he joined the Nankai Army, the predecessor of the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, where he served as both player and manager, and was fondly called "Tsuruoka Oyabun. As a manager, he won a total of 1,773 games with a winning percentage of .609, the only manager in history to exceed 60%, and is praised as the winningest manager in the history of professional baseball.
The Tsuruoka First Memorial Stadium has hosted official games of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp from 1995 to 2018.
Getting to the Stadium
Hiroshima Koiki Park Football Stadium No.1 is located in the northwestern part of Hiroshima City, and is conveniently accessible from Hiroshima City using the Astram streetcar.
Train
From Hondori Station in Kamiyacho, take the Astram to Koiki Koen-mae Station (37 minutes), and then walk 10 minutes to Hiroshima Koiki Park Football Stadium.
It is convenient to use Hondori Station if you are coming from the Peace Memorial Park area, or Kencho-mae Station or Johoku Station if you are coming from the Hiroshima Castle area. The fare from Hondori Station and Kencho-mae Station is 490 yen each way, and 450 yen from Johoku Station.
