Chunichi Dragons are a member of the Central League of professional baseball in Japan.

After winning the Japan championship in 1954, the Chunichi Dragons went on to win the league championship, but did not win the Japan championship. Then came 2007. Under manager Ochiai, the Chunichi Dragons won the Central League for the second year in a row. On to the Japan Series. The Chunichi Dragons advanced to the Japan Series for the second year in a row, following 2006. Their opponent was the Nippon-Ham Fighters, whom they had defeated in the 2006 Japan Series. In Game 5, with the championship on the line, Yamai pitched a historically good game, winning a perfect game in the 8th inning. And in the last inning, Iwase, the holding pitcher, struck out three to become the long awaited champion of Japan.

This was the first time in 53 years that Chunichi Dragons had won the championship in Japan.
