Most of the trips from Honshu to Hokkaido take a flight, but if you travel to Hakodate, you have the option of taking a Shinkansen line or airplane because the Hokkaido Shinkansen line connects between Tokyo and "Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station" in Hokkaido.

Besides buses and taxis, streetcars run in Hakodate city. You can go to Goryokaku and Hakodate Arena from around JR Hakodate Station by this streetcar. A 1-day ticket costs 600 yen. The fare varies depending on the distance, but if you make a round trip, the fare is almost the same price as a one-day pass, so If you get on/off at more than three stations, a one-day pass is a good deal.
