In 2008, Kataller Toyama, which had previously competed in the JFL, became the first J-League club in Hokuriku after they met the J-League membership requirements of finishing in the top four and meeting the criteria for average attendance of over 3,000. Since being relegated from J2 to J3 in 2015, the club has been competing in J3.
