Most of the trips from Honshu to Hokkaido take a flight, but if you travel to Hakodate, you have the option of taking a Shinkansen line or airplane because the Hokkaido Shinkansen line connects between Tokyo and "Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station" in Hokkaido.
Most event venues in Hakodate are located near the airport. For example, Hakodate Arena and Hakodate Racecourse are located about 5 kilometers from the airport to go there about 10 minutes by car. Hakodate Ocean Stadium is a little less than 10 kilometers because it goes to the central area. The Hakodate central area is about 10 kilometers away from the airport, and Hakodate Arena is within 5 kilometers.
Shuttle buses are operating between Hakodate Airport and JR Hakodate Station. The one-way trip takes about 20 minutes, and the fare is 450 yen for adults and 230 yen for children. If you stay around Hakodate Station, we recommend using this shuttle bus service.

JR Shin-Hakodate Hokuto Station
The Hokkaido Shinkansen connects Tokyo to Shin-Hokuto Hakodate Station.
”Hayabusa” stops at Tokyo, Omiya, Sendai, Morioka, Shin-Aomori, Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, and it takes about 4 hours to 4 hours and 30 minutes. The fare from Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station is between 23000 (Regular class) and 39000 yen (Premium class).
JR Hakodate Station
It takes about 20 minutes by train from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station to JR Hakodate Station.
Get around Hakodate city
Besides buses and taxis, streetcars run in Hakodate city. You can go to Goryokaku and Hakodate Arena from around JR Hakodate Station by this streetcar. A 1-day ticket costs 600 yen. The fare varies depending on the distance, but if you make a round trip, the fare is almost the same price as a one-day pass, so If you get on/off at more than three stations, a one-day pass is a good deal.
